"... And do Englishmen so soon forget the ground where liberty was fought for? Tell your neighbors and your children that this is holy ground, much holier than that on which your churches stand. All England should come in pilgrimage to this hill, once a year." 

So wrote John Adams, who went on to become the second President of the United States, in his diary after a visit to Worcester in April 1786.  He was joined on Fort Royal by his friend, Thomas Jefferson, who was the prinicpal author of the Declaration of Independence and also went on to become the third President of the United States, and together they surveyed the city of Worcester and were both dismayed that no memorial to the battle existed.

Membership of the society is open to those with a real interest in history and especially the English Civil Wars and the Battle of Worcester.  

We hold regular meetings throughout the winter months where members meet and discuss the battle and any researches they have made.  Guest speakers are invited to talk to members about their own researches in the battle.

Each year, we celebrate the battle by meeting at the historic Fort Royal in Worcester on September 3rd and raise a glass to all the men who died fighting for their cause.
