The Battle of Worcester Monument Appeal
In January 2008, the society launched the Battle of Worcester Monument Appeal. The appeal will raise monies, by public subscription and corporate sponsorship, to enable a lasting monument to be designed, created and erected to commemorate the battle.
The city of Worcester has a need to recognise its own heritage and the important part in English history that the battle represented. The creation of a monument to the battle sited in an appropriate location within the city or its surrounds will add a very public landmark for citizens and tourists alike.
The society aims to create a lasting monument to the battle and has commissioned the services of member and well-known local sculptor, Ken Potts, to design a suitable series of monuments.
Ken (below) is seen with two prototype designs for the plaques that the society plans to erect as part of a battlefield trail around Worcester. Ken is seen outside the Guildhall in January 2008 at the launch of the appeal.
